Friends of Rescue (FOR)

Friends of Rescue (FOR) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Huntsville, Alabama, that has been saving the lives of homeless dogs and cats since 2009. Operated entirely by volunteers, FOR is a 100% foster-based rescue, meaning every animal lives in a loving foster home instead of a traditional shelter while awaiting adoption. This approach provides individualized care, socialization, and a safe environment that helps prepare pets for successful transitions into their forever homes.

Every dog and cat in FOR's care receives age-appropriate veterinary care, including vaccinations, spay or neuter services, microchipping, and any necessary medical treatment before adoption. In addition to helping local adopters, Friends of Rescue coordinates transport to approved families throughout the Great Lakes and New England regions, expanding opportunities for homeless pets to find permanent homes. The organization also operates the Friends of Rescue Thrift Store (Thriftique), where proceeds directly support veterinary care and rescue efforts.
